Rob leads Kennedys’ Cambridge office. He trained at Kennedys, qualifying in England and Wales in 2003 and became a partner in 2010.

Rob advises NHS Trusts and private medical providers on all aspects of healthcare law, including medical negligence litigation, end of life decisions, judicial reviews, consent and capacity to treatment and mental health law. Rob also advocates on behalf of healthcare organisations at coroners’ inquests.

He is an NHS Resolution nominated partner, managing clinical negligence claims of the utmost severity, including cerebral palsy, neurological injuries, neonatal deaths, psychiatric injuries and emergency medicine.

Rob also provides general advice on healthcare law direct to NHS Trusts and practitioners on topics including mental health; consent to treatment; mental capacity; clinical risk and governance; complaints; data protection; child protection and deprivation of liberty. He has a specialist practice in Court of Protection cases involving declarations to treat and withdrawal of treatment.

Rob regularly lectures to clients on mental health, mental capacity, inquests, deprivation of liberty and consent and is a contributor to articles and publications within the industry including Kennedys’ healthcare brief.

Work highlights


  • JG, HG & SG v Chief Constable of Suffolk Police (1) & Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust [2017]. Rob managed this case, which proceeded to a full High Court trial. Judgement awaited. The case concerned a lady who was murdered by a man who had received treatment at the defendant mental health trust Kennedys acted for. Important issues of foreseeability and duty of care considered.
  • Amadou Nyang (A protected party by his litigation friend Ibraham Nyang) v (1) G4S Care & Justice Services Ltd 7 ORS [2013]. Successfully defended four Medical Protection Society members at High Court trial which involved a claimant with severe tetraplegia and cognitive injuries, having run head first into a wall. Claimant claimed £10 million.
  • Anita Border v South London Healthcare NHS Trust [2015]. Successfully defended an NHS Trust against allegations of negligence by an emergency medicine doctor.
  • Inquest concerning Eystna Blunnie [2015]. This concerned a young lady who was murdered by a mental health patient. Rob acted for the mental health trust which had treated the murderer.
  • Claire Manzi v Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust [2016]. Successfully defended defendant Trust against allegations of the negligent treatment of placental retention.
  • Irene Bouwmeester (by lit friend) v Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust [2016]. Successfully defended defendant trust at the trial of a claimant who alleged the trust failed to prevent head and neurological injuries following an overdose in an accident and emergency unit.
  • A NHS Trust v K and Others [2012]. A high-profile Court of Protection case obtaining a declaration that it was lawful to perform a hysterectomy on an incapacitated patient with uterine cancer.
