Karim Derrick

Head of Research and Development London, United Kingdom

Karim is Head of Research and Development for Kennedys.

His main focus is helping the wider firm harness the power of innovation to solve bigger strategic problems for our clients. He advocates an approach that starts by asking clients, “what problems do you need to solve?” - then applying data capture, data analysis, and workflow processes to help them rethink and redefine how they work.

As the leader of the firm’s global R&D team, Karim has led the development of the Kennedys Toolkit. Our Toolkit gives our clients the potential to handle more of the claims journey themselves, so they are able to use lawyers less.

Working with our Corporate and Public Affairs team he is introducing new ways for clients to benefit from access to wider industry intelligence. By combining technology and insights, he sees the potential for clients to not only understand their industries and future trends, but to prepare for them and adjust their strategic approach as the world becomes more uncertain.

Karim and the team have won several legal/tech and innovation awards for the tools that they have produced for our clients. He is part of the team responsible for winning the ‘FT Innovative Lawyers 2019: Innovation in the business of law – new products and services’ award.

Karim regularly contributes and is invited to write articles for industry publications around the topics of legaltech, innovation and technology trends.
