Suraphon is a partner in our Bangkok office and is admitted into the Lawyers Council of Thailand. He has extensive experience in commercial litigation and arbitration particularly in insurance, bankruptcy and restructuring related proceedings, construction and shareholder disputes.

Over the years, Suraphon has steadily developed a reputation as a market leader in disputes relating to real estate, regulatory compliance, energy, government entities, retail businesses and insurance. He also regularly advises on matters involving medical malpractice and aviation.

He is a trusted advisor in high profile clients’ negotiations and is highly regarded in his representation on very complex matters of Thai insurance law, especially those relating to high complex claims.

Suraphon is a member of the Thai Bar Association and Lawyers Council of Thailand.

Work highlights

  • Managed a financial institution professional indemnity policy claim (FIPI) and Bankers Bearer Bond (BBB) in connection with a third party claim for damages allegedly caused by fraudulent actions of the insured’s employees in collusion with others employed by the third party.
  • Managed an all risks policy in respect of the claims made by multiple insureds which arising from the explosion at the Erawan shrine in Bangkok in 2015 and under Bangkok unrest 2010.
  • Handled a directors' and officers' policy in connection with alleged wrongful act against directors and officers of governmental regulatory body.
  • Represented one of the largest producers of ATM machines on import customs duties and value-added tax imposed by Customs Department in Taxation Court. One of the key arguments is whether such duties are in contravention of World Trade Organisation and World Customs Organisation on exemption of customs duties.
  • Advised a leading global hotelier in relation to the Sony hacking incident. The hackers had continuously leaked information obtained from the cyber-attack. Having been carrying out investigations into the source of the attack, Suraphon liaised with Thai intelligence agencies, the office of Attorney General and law enforcement authority.
  • Advised and represented a leading global supermarket on regulatory compliance and at the Administrative Court.
  • Advised and represented majority shareholders of a real estate developer in Hua Hin under shareholders dispute cases which having project value of more than Baht 200 million.
  • Representing Kingdom of Thailand in Thai and Germany Bilateral Investment Treaty on arguing the enforcement of arbitral award on seizure of aircraft of Crown Prince of Thailand in Germany. Also representing Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand in Thai and Hong Kong Bilateral Investment Treaty. Both are cross-border matters.
