HSE enforcement over COVID-19 reportable incidents

The HSE introduced guidance that certain deaths from COVID-19 should be reported to it under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR). It is reported that at least 90 deaths have been reported to HSE under this guidance in the healthcare sector. The HSE has indicated that it will formally investigate some of the cases reported to them under RIDDOR. We are aware of and dealing with a number of active investigations.

Our webinar will explain when healthcare and other organisations should have reported a death from COVID-19 under RIDDOR, what steps to take to prepare in the event that an Inspector makes contact with a view to undertaking a formal criminal investigation, dealing with those investigations and what are the possible outcomes and consequences for organisations. We will also cover the circumstances when an inquest will be held for a COVID-19 related death.
