Guest speaker - His Honour Judge Mark Lucraft QC, The Chief Coroner of England and Wales
His Honour Judge Mark Lucraft QC was appointed as the Chief Coroner of England and Wales with effect from 1 October 2016 for a three year term.
HH Judge Mark Lucraft QC was called to the Bar in 1984 until his appointment to the Circuit Bench in July 2012. He was appointed a Recorder in 2003, authorised to sit as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2016 and appointed a Senior Circuit Judge at the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey) in 2017.
The Coroner also sits in the Divisional Court of the High Court on coroner cases, either applications for judicial review or applications for a fresh inquest (brought with permission of the Attorney-General).
He divides his time between his duties as Chief Coroner and sitting as a judge at the Central Criminal Court and in the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division).
