Transferring personal data from Europe to Hong Kong
The new European General Data Protection Regulation (the GDPR) restricts the transfer of personal data from Europe to Hong Kong, meaning that Hong Kong businesses who want to move personal data from Europe to Hong Kong need to think carefully about how best to do that. What is less commonly understood is that the GDPR also restricts the onward transfer of that personal data from Hong Kong to any other non-European country, making it the first law to restrict the transfer of personal data out of Hong Kong. The restrictions under the GDPR are complex, significantly tougher than those under the previous EC Directive, and failure to comply with them can attract massive penalties. This seminar will take a practical look at the restrictions on the transfer of personal data out of Europe and specifically how those restrictions will affect Hong Kong businesses.
We will be hosting two seminar sessions (breakfast and lunchtime) on Thursday 6 September 2018. As seats are limited, registrations will be accepted on a first come first served basis.
CPD is accredited by The Law Society of Hong Kong.
