Strike out of stale claims for want of prosecution
Since the Civil Justice Reform (“CJR”), the courts have been highly critical of “stale” claims which have been inactive for years. In furthering the underlying objectives of CJR, in particular ensuring that the action is dealt with as expeditiously as reasonably practicable, the attitude of “letting the sleep dogs lie” (i.e. allowing inactive proceedings to remain dormant) is also no longer acceptable.

Kennedys promotes thirteen to global partnership

Latest decisions regarding practice promotion
The Medical Council of Hong Kong (MCHK) has recently handed down two decisions in relation to the convictions of two doctors for practice promotion. The decisions serve as an important reminder to medical practitioners to ensure compliance with the Code of Professional Conduct for the Guidance of Registered Medical Practitioners (the Code), and all other guidelines as issued by the MCHK on promotional activities.

Major partner and litigation head hire boosts Kennedys’ Peru office
We are pleased to announce that we have appointed Fernando Hurtado de Mendoza as a partner and Kodiak Semsch as a senior associate to our office in Lima as we continue to build a heavyweight practice in Peru. Fernando’s practice is split between aviation, corporate and insurance work. He moves from Rodrigo Elias y Medrano, the largest law firm in the country, and is immediately joined by associate Alejandra Vicuna. Kodiak, who will join the team later this month as the head of our Lima office’s litigation practice, is a dispute resolution specialist. He was formerly a litigation partner at Osterling Abogados.
