Mirjam is a partner in our London office and specialises in insurance. She is dual qualified having qualified in Germany in 2003 and in England and Wales in 2006.

Her areas of practice include insurance/reinsurance, product liability, employers’ liability, environmental liability, and health and safety law.
Mirjam specialises in the conduct of complex cross-border disputes, in the context of which she regularly advises on questions of jurisdiction and private international law. She has also acted in health and safety prosecutions and inquests.

In addition to her contentious caseload, Mirjam frequently advises insurers on policy coverage under both English and German law and has extensive experience of drafting German insurance policies, including those relating to product liability, kidnap and ransom, and environmental liability.

Mirjam has published various articles on German and English product liability laws and regulations, and co-authored the chapter on product liability claims in the third edition of Insurance Disputes edited by the Right Honourable Lord Mance, Iain Goldrein QC and Professor Robert Merkin.

Mirjam speaks German, English, and Portuguese. She is a committee member of the British-German Jurists’ Association. She is also a member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL).

She also contributed to the fourth edition of Kennedys’ Global Legal Handbook, one of our most popular guides, which outlines the main legal and procedural issues that case handlers may encounter when dealing with claims across 53 jurisdictions globally.

  • Advised excess insurers in coverage dispute related to the withdrawal of allegedly defective knee implants.
  • Successfully defended London Market insurers in coverage dispute in the German courts at first instance and appeal.
  • Acted for the supplier of a reconditioned locomotive involved in an explosion causing two deaths on a construction site, to include representation at the inquest and in civil proceedings.
