Peter is a Partner in our Edinburgh office and is a specialist in liability with vast experience in advising insurers, large corporates and public bodies.

Peter handles the full range of motor, employers’ and public liability claims, with a particular focus on serious and catastrophic injury, fatalities and high value property damage cases.

He is also frequently called upon to provide insurance policy indemnity advice and to deal with litigation arising from the interpretation of insurance policies.

In addition to his significant experience litigating through the Scottish courts, Peter also has a track record of resolving disputes through mediation.

Peter joined Kennedys from Brodies LLP in September 2017 and looks forward to continuing to provide the benefit of his significant experience and expertise to our clients and to continuing the growth and expansion of Kennedys in Scotland.

He is a member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL).

Work highlights

  • Successfully managed and settled a traumatic brain injury case involving a 21-year-old male vehicle passenger. The case settled far in advance of trial for less than 50% of the claimant’s valuation.
  • Successfully resolved a tetraplegia case for £1.9 million by alternative dispute resolution prior to litigation.
  • In a multiple passenger injury claim, supporting a vulnerable policyholder who sustained a life-changing head injury in the accident. Sensitive and thorough handling enabled all claims to be settled with the policyholder’s agreement.
  • Successfully pursued a Scottish local authority through first instance and appeal in a significant property damage claim that challenged its underlying policy on tenement demolition.
  • Successfully defended through first instance and appeal a class action of more than 70 claimants alleging personal injuries arising from social housing built on contaminated land.
