Kennedys announces growth in Bermuda following rankings success

We are pleased to confirm the arrival of three highly qualified lawyers to our Bermuda office at the same time as two of the office’s partners have been ranked as being among the best in the country.

Partners Mark Chudleigh and Alex Potts QC have been recognised in the latest edition of Chambers Global, the international legal directory formed by extensive market research, published today.

Mark Chudleigh has received market recognition as a Band 1 lawyer within the field of Contentious Insurance and Dispute Resolution, with sources describing him as an insurance disputes specialist with “excellent industry knowledge”, and “great leadership” qualities.

Alex Potts QC has been described within the directory as a Band 1 lawyer within the field of Dispute Resolution, with clients describing him as "the cream of the crop: focused, knowledgeable, articulate, organised and forthright”.

These latest rankings follow similar accolades bestowed on our Bermuda-based partners, including Nick Miles, by the most recent global editions of The Legal 500 and Who’s Who Legal.

We have also welcomed three highly-qualified lawyers to our ranks recently, all of whom have joined the Bermuda office within the past month. The recent recruits include Nicolas Champ, Lewis Preston and Roshan Sidhu, each of whom has worked for a number of years in international law firms, with significant professional experience gained in Bermuda, England and Wales, the British Virgin Islands (BVI), France, and Hong Kong.

Partner and Head of Kennedys’ Bermuda office, Mark Chudleigh, says: “We are extremely excited to have Nicolas, Lewis, and Roshan join us, as we grow our footprint both in Bermuda and through our international network. Nicolas is already very highly-regarded as a corporate and commercial lawyer here on the ground in Bermuda, and his prior experience working in both London and Paris will be invaluable to our international client base. Lewis is an English and BVI-qualified barrister, who has worked in London and Hong Kong, with particular experience both as an advocate and as a litigator handling corporate, commercial and insolvency disputes (many of which involve Bermuda companies with business dealings in Singapore and Hong Kong).

“Roshan, in turn, is a solicitor qualified in England and Wales who joins us from our London office. He has particular experience in insurance and reinsurance disputes, including ‘Bermuda Form’ insurance arbitrations seated in London and Bermuda. Their arrival gives us enormous strength and depth, across all of our specialist practice areas.”

Nick Miles, Head of Kennedys’ Corporate department in Bermuda, said: “In addition to strengthening our team locally, I am very pleased that we are able to support and promote Bermudian legal talent internationally, with two young Bermudians coming to the end of their first six-month training seats with our London office, en route to qualification as English solicitors.

“We are hopeful that Bermudian law graduates will continue to apply for training and pupillage positions in the months and years to come, with several Bermudian law students having recently applied for London positions commencing in September 2019 and September 2020; and applications sought for positions in our New York office, as our global network of offices continues to strengthen its long-standing relationship with the Bermuda insurance market, both on the contentious and non-contentious side.”

Our Bermuda office currently employs eight lawyers locally, all of whom are dual-qualified in England and Bermuda, with some also admitted to the Bars of other jurisdictions. Further growth is anticipated in the coming months.
