- Representing an Omani oil refinery in an ICC arbitration against one of its former contractors in relation to a fire at the refinery causing over USD 56M in loss;
- Representing a large UAE-based contractor in an ADCCAC arbitration against one of its former MEP subcontractors in relation to a large hotel in Abu Dhabi – with the combined total of claims and cross-claims totalling over AED 150M;
- Representing a large engineering company (with local UAE counsel) in a claim brought against it in the Dubai courts by a large UAE developer worth over AED 44M.
- Advising one of the world’s largest insurers in a claim against one of its insureds (an international engineering company) in a potential claim against it by the Airports Authority of India.
Laurice is a Senior Associate in our Dubai office. She was admitted as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of New South Wales, Australia, in April 2013, and practised one of Australia’s top-tier law firms until February 2018.
Laurice specialises in major construction disputes and has been the day-to-day contact on a number of significant construction matters in the Middle East region. Laurice also has a background in, and continues to practice in, insurance disputes, particularly professional indemnity and construction-related insurance.
Laurice has represented engineering companies in the local UAE Courts, property developers in the DIFC and generally acted for range of large employers and contractors in arbitrations across the UAE and Oman. Laurice has ran cases in a number of the major arbitration forums including the ICC, ADCCAC, DIFC-LCIA and DIAC.
Laurice spent her first 5 years as a solicitor working in Sydney, Australia, with a number of significant clients including the country’s largest banks, retailers and contractors assisting with their construction and insurance disputes.
She has been praised by clients, Counsel and colleagues alike and has been referred to as “an extremely able lawyer, intelligent and commercial” and “a vital component of the legal team”.
