Artificial intelligence in medicine: the present and the future

Kennedys' healthcare team are delighted to be hosting the fourth session of our annual healthcare seminar programme 2024, which will be held virtually on Wednesday 24 April.

Guest speakers: Dr Anjum Ahmed, Chief Medical Officer, Agfa HealthCare, Dr Vijay Jayaram, Consultant Radiologist and Mr Stephen Townrow, Head of Clinical Systems, The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust

Dr Anjum Ahmed leads emotional intelligence (EI) and artificial intelligence (AI) innovation initiatives to help healthcare organisations enable value-based care models, improve care and maximise value with their health IT investments. His white papers on the evidence-based application of AI in medical imaging have been published and distributed globally by thought leaders, such as Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). Often speaking at international events, Dr Ahmed specialises in machine learning and cognitive computing, and its applications in healthcare.

Mr Stephen Townrow is Head of Clinical Systems at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. Using his experience as a diagnostic radiographer, Mr Townrow is responsible for driving change in information technology across his Trust, including paperless environment in diagnostics and integrating AI solutions. He also chairs the ImagesEast digital workstream, a collaboration between Herts and West Essex Integrated Care System, Bedfordshire Hospitals, and Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System, which drives change using technology across the region.

Dr Vijay Jayaram is a consultant radiologist and Clinical Director for Research, Development and Innovation at Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. His work includes reporting on a high volume of plain radiographs, CT and MRI examinations and has a strong interest in AI, musculoskeletal, emergency and trauma imaging and imaging of gynaecological malignancies. He has been a member of the AI assurance board at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust since 2019, as well as co-writing multiple publications such as ‘Compressive neuropathies related to ganglions of the wrist and hand’ and ‘Echo-enhancing (contrast) agents’.
