Profile

Mikaela is a solicitor in Kennedy’s Wellington office. She works across a variety of areas, with a particular focus on regulatory defence, construction and employment disputes. Mikaela works with a variety of clients but has a special interest in assisting charitable / religious organisations and iwi groups. Her practice is relationally focused and guided by a mana-enhancing ethos. 

Mikaela graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Theology (First Class Hons) in 2021.  She was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 2022.

Work highlights

  • Acting for defendants facing a WorkSafe prosecution in relation to the 2019 eruption on Whakaari / White Island.
  • Acting for not-for-profit and religious charitable trusts through various employment disputes and regulatory prosecutions.
  • Acting on behalf of parties facing regulatory investigations and prosecutions by local councils for breaches of the Resource Management Act 1991.
  • Successfully supporting respondents in the construction industry in civil proceedings and complaints with the Licensed Building Practitioners Board.
