Jason Issa

Jason is an Associate in Kennedys’ Sydney office specialising in Financial Lines insurance matters. Jason also has an extensive background in General Lines insurance matters.

Jason commenced his legal career working at third party administrator focusing on public liability and property damage claims matters. Jason has predominantly spent the majority of his 10 year career to date working in various in-house insurance environments across various global insurers, third party administrator and global brokerage. These in-house experiences have enriched Jason’s technical legal knowledge, expertise and understanding of client expectations as well as insurance matters across both Financial and General Lines. Jason also has gained valuable litigation insurance experience having previously also worked at a respected Defendant insurance law firm.  

Jason has a thorough understanding of the Lloyds of London, Australian Insurance Markets, Claims processes and global claims insurer protocols. Jason’s experience in general insurance spans across property damage, personal injury, products, construction and marine injury liability claims. 

Jason has also handled Professional Indemnity, Cyber liability and Directors & Officers liability matters within the financial lines space. He also has a significant exposure to many different types of life insurance products as well as claims and litigation experience relating to various types of life insurance disputes. He has provided advice, support and training to claims and underwriting teams of major insurers to navigate various insurance statutes and common law decisions. 

In addition, Jason has provided legal advice and support to the risk and compliance teams of large insurers in relation to the Life Insurance Code of Practice as well as their Internal Dispute Resolution teams with respect to complex disputes with customers relating to policy indemnity. 

Jason is highly experienced in reviewing a variety of insurance product documentation and other commercial documents with respect to indemnity issues as well as recommending improvements with the wording of the products in the interest of saving money on large claims for global insurers. Demonstrated experience with assisting insurers with the management of complex external disputes lodged with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA), Financial Services Council (FSC), Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) and other external bodies. 

During his tenure within the insurance industry he has worked closely with small businesses to multi-national large companies across a plethora of industries ranging from retail, commercial, shipping, freight, construction, mining, engineering, hospitality amongst other industries.
