Michaela Smyth
Profile
Michaela Smyth is an associate in Kennedys’ finance, casualty and political risk team in London. She qualified in 2022 and acts for insurer and reinsurer clients on complex, high value and often multi-jurisdictional coverage disputes across a wide range of classes of insurance and reinsurance business, including product liability, D&O, property and excess general liability, including in relation to policies underwritten on the Bermuda Form.
Prior to joining Kennedys, Michaela gained a wide variety of litigious and arbitral experience having worked on matters, including, the FCA test case regarding COVID-19 related business interruption, a broker negligence claim relating to losses in the construction industry, and a high value political risk coverage dispute in relation to the July 2021 South African riots.
Michaela’s recent experience includes working on claims relating to personal injury class actions, the opioids crisis, covid-19 and the cum/ex scandal.

Working as part of a team in relation to defence of third party liability claims, with a particular focus on property / geotechnical related disputes.
