Orla Veale Martin
Profile
Orla provides practical commercial advice on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law, primarily servicing employer clients. Orla regularly assists HR teams with the drafting of policy documents, contracts and handbooks, as well as providing ongoing support in relation to redundancies, terminations, grievances, protected disclosures and equality matters. Orla regularly appears before the Workplace Relations Commission.
Orla presents seminars on employment law issues and develops bespoke training sessions for her clients on topical issues on new legislation and case law impacting a client’s business.
Prior to practising as a solicitor, Orla was a judicial assistant to Chief Justice Frank Clarke. Orla has a Masters in Law from McGill University, Montreal.

- Settled high value proceedings relating to defamation, protected disclosures and unfair dismissal brought by a former employee of a fertility clinic;
- Settled an unfair dismissal and discrimination claim brought by a former employee of a health care facility;
- Successfully defended, and awarded costs of, an employment injunction brought by a physician against her employer;
- Successfully defended an Equal Status Act claim against an insurer;
- Successfully advocated and defended a claim in relation to payment of wages;
- Successfully defended a claim of unfair dismissal in relation to long term sick leave.
