Our two-year training contract allows you to develop relevant experience and skills that will set you up in your career as an excellent solicitor. During your training contract, you’ll complete four six-month seats across our core practice areas of Insurance and reinsurance, Liability, Healthcare and Commercial. We also offer exciting secondment opportunities to our Hong Kong office and UK clients.
We offer training to ensure that you are supported throughout your training contract. You’ll be given the opportunity to attend in-house and external seminars, whilst having access to a large array of online skills and technical learning via our internal Learning Management System.

In January, we run a one-week vacation scheme in our London office, offering the opportunity to experience what it would be like to work as a trainee at Kennedys in the UK. During the week, you will be allocated a supervisor who will be responsible for your day-to-day tasks as well as a trainee buddy to support you. We arrange a schedule of activities during the week, to give you the opportunity to learn more about Kennedys whilst we get to know you too.
We ask for feedback from your supervisor after the week has finished, to help with our decisions on making training contract offers. We then offer training contract positions to start the following year.

To be considered for a training contract in our Hong Kong office, you will need to have achieved, or be on course to achieve, a 2:1 degree in law. You must also be fluent in Chinese and English. Additionally, before you start your training contract, you must complete the PCLL (Postgraduate Certificate in Law) and pass this on your first attempt.
The training contract application process opens in March each year, which involves submission of a CV and transcripts.
The interview process opens in May each year, and involves written assessments and an interview with two partners. If successful, you will then be invited back for a two-week internship during the summer.
If you are unable to participate in the two-week internship, there will be an opportunity to attend an interview to be assessed for a training contract.
During the training contract, trainees usually experience four six-month seats, to ensure they gain experience in at least three of the following areas: banking; civil litigation; commercial; company; criminal litigation; family; insolvency; intellectual property; property; trusts, wills and probate. Trainees are allocated a supervisor during their seats to guide and mentor them during their training.
Our US summer associate program, designed primarily for second year students, is an integral part of our lawyer hiring program. Summer associates get a realistic view of life as a lawyer at our firm.
Our summer associates meet with clients, draft pleadings and discovery responses, and accompany our lawyers to meetings, depositions, and court appearances. We also provide feedback and mentoring, as well as in-house seminars on a variety of topics.
We place a high priority on training and supervision. From the first day of a lawyer’s employment, we emphasise the importance of continually developing skills, refining professionalism and giving back to the community. Through hands-on, direct client service and continual legal education, we ensure that our lawyers never stop developing professionally. With this in mind, we offer in-house training programs and continuing legal education for all our lawyers.
We also encourage our people to stay abreast of changes in laws, statutes, regulations and codes in their areas of practice, and our lawyers regularly participate in Continuing Education Programs (CLE), professional seminars and other substantive training.
