Kennedys Thailand serves the second largest international insurance community in South East Asia, providing defendant claims services and coverage advice to the insurance and reinsurance sector.

Work highlights

  • Advised reinsurance panels, comprising of the world's leading insurers in relation to a six billion Baht claim arising from the fire at Central World which occurred during the 2010 Bangkok unrest.
  • Acted for numerous international insurers and reinsurers in relation to a multi-million Baht property and business interruption claims arising from the 2010 Bangkok unrest.
  • Advised on an All risks policy in respect of the claims made by multiple insureds arising from the explosion at the Erawan shrine in Bangkok in 2015 and under Bangkok unrest 2010.
  • Advised on a directors and officers policy in connection with an alleged wrongful act against directors and officers of governmental regulatory body.
  • Represented a Korean client in relation to a dispute relating to a co-generation power plant agreement. The dispute was brought to arbitration under ICC rules, enforcement of the arbitral award under ICC rules in Thai Court.
  • Advised a leading global hotelier in relation to Sony hacking incident. The hackers had continuously leaked information obtained from the cyber-attack.  Having been carrying out investigation into the source of the attack, liaised with Thai intelligence agencies, the office of Attorney General and law enforcement authority.
  • Representing Kingdom of Thailand in Thai and Germany Bilateral Investment Treaty on arguing the enforcement of arbitral award on seizure of aircraft of Crown Prince of Thailand in Germany. Also representing Securities and
  • Exchange Commission of Thailand in Thai and Hong Kong Bilateral Investment Treaty.
  • Our London Market office advised insurers on aggregation issues in relation to a major retailer’s claims exceeding £100m arising out of the 2011 Thai floods. The swift and successful collaboration between the insurer and policyholder in relation to the claim resulted in them receiving the Major Loss of the Year award at the British Insurance Awards.
