Having qualified in 1999, Raymond is now a partner in our Belfast office.
Raymond has advised on all aspects professional indemnity matters for over 15 years and has gained considerable experience of both litigation and alternative dispute resolution. He also advises on directors’ and officers‘ insurance and has significant experience in handling property and construction all risks claims, including recovery, defence and coverage.
He is also experienced in advising on a wide range of personal injury claims, including defending youth associations in relation to sensitive claims for assault, battery and trespass.
Raymond has been instructed on a number of complex matters, including advising architects in relation to a landmark building.
He frequently is commended by legal directors, most recently being named as a ‘Leading Individual’ for construction in Northern Ireland in Chambers UK 2016, and a ‘Recommended Lawyer’ for dispute resolution and in both The Legal 500 UK 2016 and 2015. He is also a Recommended lawyer for Personal injury and clinical negligence (defendant), The Legal 500 UK 2016.
Raymond is a member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers, Society of Construction Law and the Adjudication Society.
Work highlights
Advising builders and civil engineers in pursuing compensation events following the restoration of a dock. The case involved interpretation of the NEC suite of contracts and contract documents, and analysis of highly technical expert evidence.
Advising architects of a landmark building in relation to various issues such as the apparent premature deterioration of the stone cladding.
Advising insurers and engineers in a claim arising from a defective roof on a landmark office block. Our work involved detailed analysis of the construction contracts, collateral warranties and in pursuing a subrogated claim against the project architects.
Advising insurers in a high-value claim arising from catastrophic failure of concrete floor units at a new school.
Advising developers, engineers and contractors regarding piling failure and subsidence on numerous projects.
Advising engineers in relation to subsidence affecting a major housing development.
